I stumbled on TV Ears awhile back when a hospice patient of mine proudly showed me the one that her son had bought for her. She went on to tell me about how much she loves this little device, and how it has dramatically improved the quality of her life. She is just thrilled to be
able to watch TV again! This sweet little lady, who will be 90 years old next month, was living independently in her own apartment until recently. She was requiring assistance more frequently during the day, so she moved in with her son and his family. This family takes very loving care of her. I have seen firsthand, how they are always trying to make her days as best as they can be. She does not get out of the house very easily anymore, but she is still a very vibrant personality with sharp mental clarity.
Unfortunately she has some pretty significant hearing loss, and has to wear hearing aids in both ears. She also has a disease called Macular Degeneration and this has really affected her ability to see. Often times when someone is suffering from hearing loss, they can try to compensate by watching TV in closed captioning. This was not an option for her. A unique aspect to TV Ears is that the design is to be specifically used by people who already wear hearing aids. There is an improved TV watching experience over wearing traditional hearing aids. Now she can enjoy watching TV at any sound level, at any time, and her son and the family no longer have to listen to a TV turned up to high volumes.

The loss of hearing and vision can leave someone feeling very isolated and with a sense of feeling detached from their surroundings. This can lead to significant symptoms of depression and has a real impact on someone’s overall quality of life. I am excited to share this product with you because I have not seen anything that compares to it. Over the years, I have had patients that have used very expensive hearing aides to cheap little sound amplifying gadgets, and largely the feedback has been overwhelmingly negative.

I envision TV Ears as hope on the horizon for people who suffer from hearing loss.
Take at look at the following video from the makers of TV Ears ->
WHAT EXACTLY ARE TV EARS?
The main purpose of this product to make the dialogue on the TV more clear, and targets the type of hearing loss related to higher frequencies. TV Ears uses “Voice Clarifying Circuitry” in addition to being wireless, lightweight, and rechargeable. Similar products will use a radio frequency or blue tooth technology, but TV Ears uses “Speed of Light Infrared Technology” which allows for a much faster sound transmission. This product can be safely used in my patients with heart disease that may have a pacemaker.
There are two different models of TV Ears. The Original Model connects directly to all TVs, while the Digital Model has connectivity with Dolby, SRS, and PCM compatibility. TV ears Digital has 125 Decibels of Power and works very well the newer models of TVs. The reason I rated this product 9.5/10 was because there may be a need to buy an additional connection cable to operate TV Ears Original on the newer televisions. Otherwise, I believe this in excellent little device, and I would encourage anyone that has difficulty hearing the TV to go and check it out.
I hope you find this product review helpful. Please feel free ask a question or leave a comment.
Wow, this product would be excellent for my neighbour who is also suffering from hearing loss due to old age. She would always watch TV at very high volumes and it would sometimes bother me.
I’ve really never heard of TV Ears before I came across your article. Does it come with any sort of warranty? Are there service centres available in case the device breaks down?
Great review!
Thank you. Yes, it does come with five year warranty, but it does have to be mailed to TV Ears directly for repair or replacement. Pass it on to that little neighbor of yours. 🙂
Take Care, Heather
Glad I came across this site. Great info. My father was on hospice just 2 years ago and I learned so much of what they go through. Now, my mother, who just turned 70, is starting to suffer from hearing loss. So, it’s nice to see what options are out there.
Thanks for this info!!
You are very welcome. I am glad that you found the information useful.

Hello
Very good choice of a product to write about in your article, I have seen this product on my tv late at night on paid advertising when nothing else was on.
Do you really believe this product works as advertised, it would be much better than having the tv sky high and disturbing others in the family?
Thank you Jeffrey for taking the time to review my article. I would sincerely endorse this product, my patient has been very happy with it. She brings it up everytime I see her, that is why I feel compelled to share. Take Care, Heather
Do you have any pictures of TV Ears that you can share? I’m curious if they look like hearing aides or if they are more of a headphone setup? Does the “speed of light infrared technology” sync up like Bluetooth? Or is the setup process different? I have never seen this technology on my Samsung TV before.
Thank you Dan for the question. The ear buds are connected with a U-shaped piece. They are wireless and and there is a transmitting device that attaches to the TV. The benefit of the speed of light infrared technology over bluetooth, is that there will not be a delay between the sound of TV transmittal, you will hear what they are saying while their lips are moving. It can be irritating to watch TV when there is a sound delay in relation to the picture. This device is solely designed to improve the quality of sound while watching TV. Hope that helps.
Take Care,
Heather
I know how crazy it can be for everybody in our family when visiting my 91-year-old mother. This is because the TV volume is so high that others around find it very hard to converse as everyone ends up yelling trying to hear one another over the volume of the TV. So I can see how easily the TV ears could change all of that. Great idea 🙂
That is so true! I saw my little TV ears patient today, and she again told me how much she loves it. LOL.
Take Care,
Heather
TV ears is definitely a life saver for people who can’t hear properly. It is sad to see that as we age, we are greeted with such problems and people who are already suffering from it would find it really difficult to live life how they did previously.
This is a really useful product and I would definitely purchase in order to see if it is useful.
I am glad you were able to find the article useful. I agree with you about something so simple, making such a difference in someone’s life.
Best Wishes,
Heather
Heather, this seems like a life-changing product for people hard of hearing, their families and their neighbours! I once had an elderly neighbour who would have the TV so loud I could watch the same channel at home on mute and still hear it perfectly! I wish she had been aware of TV Ears back then!
I agree that this can really enhance everyone’s quality of life. Sometimes it is the simple things that make all the difference. Thank you for taking the time to read the article.
